The personal physician of the U.S President Donald Trump has confirmed the President has tested negative for the new coronavirus. The White House announced the 73-year-old president had tested negative, just hours after saying he had been tested for the disease the following night. It is confusing some observers as the results might not be known for some days. White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said Trump’s doctor, Sean Conley issued a statement and said, “Last night after an in-depth discussion with the president regarding COVID-19 testing, he elected to proceed”. Conley said, “One week after having dinner with the Brazilian delegation in Mar-a-Lago, the president remains symptom-free. I have been in daily contact with the CDC and White House coronoavirus Task Force, and we are encouraging the implementation of all their best practices for exposure reduction and transmission mitigation”.

On Saturday morning, journalists were made to follow a new protocol and have their temperatures checked for a possible presence of infection. The move took place a day after Trump said he would likely get tested. Trump said he had his temperature checked before entering the room. He said he had been tested for COVID-19 and waiting for the results. Trump said, “I had my temperature taken coming into the room. I also took the test last night. And I decided it should be based on the press conference last night”. He added, “It was totally normal. If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t have been here. Results will be after a day or two days. They send it to a lab”.

It is noteworthy that the U.S President had multiple direct and indirect contacts with people who have since tested positive for the coronavirus. There are 3 people Trump spent time with last weekend at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. On Friday, the Brazilian Embassy in Washington said the country’s affairs in-charge, Nestor Forster was tested positive after sitting at Trump’s dinner table. A top aide to Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro also took a photo with Trump and attended a party with him. Trump relented after being pressed by reporters regarding his resistance to testing when multiple politicians and countless citizens across the country have had the same degree of exposure, have not only tried to get tested.
