Melania Trump (First Lady of the United States) donated a phototherapy machine to Ridge, the Greater Accra Regional Hospital. This machine will be used in the treatment of neonatal jaundice in babies. It is noteworthy; Neonatal jaundice is commonly found in most newborn babies. A research has indicated that there are at least 50% of term and 80% of preterm babies.

The Phototherapy is mostly used to decrease levels of unconjugated bilirubin resulting in acute or chronic brain damage. Dr. Emmanuel Srofenyo (Medical Director of the Hospital) is elated by the gesture. He said that the facility already has some of the machines. The model donated by the First Lady of the United States is one of the best machines in the world.
