A series of images supposedly showing ‘Frozen Waves’ off the coast of Nantucket begin circulation in January 2016 on most of the social media websites. These extraordinary photographs were captured in February 2015 by a photographer Jonathan Nimerfroh. It is important that images of frozen waves are considered real, but these waves are not frozen completely. The photographer Jonathan Nimerfroh is a surfer and he visited at the beach of Nantucket and experienced unusual and slow movement of waves. He said that “I noticed a perfect comical vanishing point at the beach; the snow was up to my knees and I saw half-frozen waves”. He added that you can hear the crashing sound of waves in the summer season, but these waves were more silent.

A fisherman also said that freezing at the harbor is common, but he never experienced this kind of wave formation before now and water freezes at 32 degree Fahrenheit. He added that salt in the ocean decreases the freezing temperature. The movement of waves breaks the pieces of ice prior to generate large waves at the coast. It creates a continuous tiny glass breaking sound. The photographer presented his captured unique photographs to ‘Shutterbug’ and described it as perfect dreamy slush waves. Most of the waves were two feet with a number of sets and some waves are three feet high. He added that he visited on next day to capture more amazing photographs, but the water had frozen into ice and didn’t find anything moving and found Calm Ocean with frozen sheets of ice.
