The SeaWorld Company has announced on Monday that a 3-month-old Orca has died at Sea World in San Antonio. The baby calf, Kyara was the last orca born at one of the parks after discontinuing the breeding program in March 2016 by the SeaWorld. The company also posted an update on its website seaworldcares.com, which indicated that “Friends and Fans of SeaWorld, we are extremely saddened to announce the death of Kyara the whale calf. Kyara was in the treatment process for an infection at the Animal Hospital of the park”. A written statement issued by the SeaWorld that Kyara was experiencing health problems since last week and the postmortem test will provide the actual cause of Kyara’s death.

The SeaWorld is continuously focusing on the care of the rest of orca pod back at Shamu Stadium. Mother of Kyara, Takara is currently behaving normally and the company has confirmed that Kyara’s death cause wasn’t due to living in captivity. SeaWorld has indicated that pneumonia has been considered a most common cause of illness in dolphins and whales in the wild and zoological environment. SeaWorld was also criticized by the Animal rights activists for keeping orcas at its parks. The pressure was increased in 2013 by a documentary Blackfish and it warned for considerable amount of changes in the procedures of SeaWorld regarding the killer whales. The Orca shows have been stopped at the San Diego facility and in the other SeaWorld parks, including the San Antonio.
