The Ukrainian Navy has confirmed that 13 border guards were reportedly killed during the Russian attack, but are alive and safe. These soldiers have turned into international heroes as they warned a Russian warship to “go fuck yourself”.

They were deployed at a border post and reportedly killed in a warship attack, but didn’t surrender and still fighting for the country.

Snake Island

A Ukrainian Navy official made the announcement in a post on Facebook. Russian enemies reportedly captured Marines and border guards on the island of Snake. Facebook user said he is very happy to learn that his brothers are alive and well.

Earlier Reports Confirmed the Deaths of 13 Navy Soldiers

Some earlier reports have indicated that Ukrainian guards were stationed on a rocky Black Sea land (also known as Snake Island). A Russian reached there and warned border guards to surrender.

The invaders announced a warning and said this is a Russian warship and Ukrainian soldiers must lay down arms. They were forced to surrender to prevent bloodshed and unessential victims. Otherwise, they will be bombed. The Ukrainian border guards responded and said “Russian warship go fuck yourself”.

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the deaths of border guards on late Thursday. He said that border guards had died heroically while defending the Snake Island. But the Ukrainian border guards are still alive and Russian forces have captured them as prisoners.

Earlier reports had mentioned the entire loss of communication with a small unit of soldiers. The reports also mentioned the critical disaster of the infrastructure on the island. Most of the reports confirmed the Russian attack and killing of Ukrainian border guards.

Snake Island Guards are Alive

However, President Zelenskyy hasn’t yet commented on this new discovery about the border guards on Snake Island.

Various news outlets reported that border guards were all feared dead after getting threats from a Russian warship. But the Ukrainian Navy has now confirmed that the guards of Snake Island are still alive and well.

All soldiers on a small island in the Black Sea were considered killed on the first day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On Thursday, the President of Ukraine said Russian bombardment on Snake Island left the heroic death of 13 border guards. But the Ukrainian Navy issued a statement suggesting this wasn’t the case after the confirmation by Ukrainian border guards.

The Ukrainian Navy issued a statement and said the soldiers on the island confronted and resisted 2 Russian attacks. But they were forced to surrender in the end because of the ammunition shortage.

Russian Forces Destroyed the Entire Snake Island

The statement added that Russian forces have entirely destroyed the infrastructure, lighthouses, antennas, and towers of Snake Island. The Russian state media also reported the arrival of the Ukrainian soldiers in Sevastopol, Crimea.

The Snake Island (known as Zmiinyi Island) is about 46 acres in size. It is in the northwestern Black Sea and 30 miles off the southern tip of the Ukrainian mainland. The Island is considered a key to Ukrainian maritime territorial claims in the Black Sea.

It is Ukrainian territory about 185 miles west of Crimea that Russia cranked up in 2014. Last year, President Zelensky selected Snake Island for an interview with Ukrainian media. His interview came before a summit and highlighted the strategic importance of the Island.
