The U.S President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump have received the annual White House Christmas tree. The annual Christmas event is watched around the world, with this year’s tree standing 19.5 feet tall. The North Carolina-grown tree was delivered to White House via horse and carriage according to a tradition. The tradition of the White House Christmas tree dates back to 1889. It was the time when then-President Benjamin Harrison placed the 1st Christmas tree in the Yellow Room and the room was decorated with candles. Mountain Top Fraser Fir’s Larry Smith was named as Grand Champion in the National Christmas Tree Association’s contest during last summer. So, Larry Smith earned the right to have his tree in the White House. Smith said, “I feel as though I have finally won the Super Bowl. It’s a great honor to represent the Christmas tree industry by providing the Official White House Christmas Tree in 2018”.

Christmas Tree in White House

Trump will make an appearance as the White House receives its annual Christmas tree. It is unusual for the U.S President to be present at the tree’s arrival and he will be there at 1 pm. The current year’s tree hails from Mountain Top Fraser Fir in Newland, North Carolina. It is noteworthy that Mountain Top Fraser Fir’s Larry Smith was named Grand Champion in the contest of tree association in last summer. The National Christmas Tree Association said that it was his 5th attempt to win the honor of delivering a Christmas tree to the White House. The White House Historical Association has indicated that the tradition of the White House Christmas tree dates back to 1889 when President Benjamin Harrison placed the first tree in the White House. The current year’s tree was selected in the month of September. The White House’s chief usher Timothy Harleth and superintendent of grounds, Dale Haney, traveled to North Carolina and selected a Fraser Fir from the selected field on the tree farm of Larry Smith.
