A rumor started circulation on social media network in the month of August 2016 and reported that the co-founder of Microsoft Bill Gates and his wife Melinda Gates are providing free textbooks to college students from their created a new website. Most of the people assumed that Bill Gates & Melinda Gates are working on a project and providing textbooks to students. It is correct that Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is a non-profit organization named OpenStax. The major objective of this foundation is to create and provide free digital textbooks for college students of various universities. But, most of the other details are misleading.

Bill & Melinda Gates didn’t just start a website to provide free textbooks for students of every college or related to their college course. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and several other foundations are nonprofit organizations based at Rice University named OpenStax. Its main focus is to provide an easy pathway to access educational resources for needy students. The nonprofit partners are working with a number of universities to produce best quality textbooks free of cost online and lower cost in printing for specific courses. The major objective of OpenStax is to create online college textbooks with open license and hopefully these books will be accepted by universities and teachers. Enrolled students at university and college in a specific course that is using OpenStax, will be able to make use of those free digital textbooks and they will also be able to print those textbooks at a lower cost.
