On Sunday, the U.S Secretary of State Rex Tillerson admired the daring of Turkish people in protecting democracy from an adventured action at least one year ago. He didn’t mention about the extensive crackdown that has followed. The U.S Secretary of State delivered his words at the opening ceremony of an oil conference in Istanbul. He also collected an award recognizing his 4 decades of work in the industry. Tillerson said that the United States has found Turkey as a partner in its struggle in providing greater energy security in the region. At least one year ago, the Turkish people including brave men and women massively resisted against adventured action organizers and protected their democracy. He added that I discussed the braveness of Turkish people and to recognize their action and honor the victims of 15th July 2016 events.
Point to be noted that a group of scoundrel soldiers commandeered warplanes, tanks and helicopters on the night of 15th July and attacked Turkish parliament. They also seized control of roads and bridges in an attempt to overthrow the Turkish democratic government. At least 240 people, most of them Turkish civilians were died at that night. This attempt failed when huge amount of Turkish people took to the streets in protest due to a call from the Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to defend democracy and resist the action. Since the failed action, at least 100 thousand people have been suspended or terminated from their work in the military, police, civil service and private sector, and more than 40 thousand people jailed since last one year.
